Description

IL-15 is constitutively expressed by multiple cell types including monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, keratinocytes, fibroblasts, nerve cells. It is a member of the IL-2 family and shares similarities to IL-2. IL-15 has a key role in a number of areas spanning innate and adaptive immunity. IL-15 has a primary target of T cells but also acts on NK cells causing both cell types to proliferate. Elevated quantities of IL-15 are associated with its role in autoimmune diseases and retroviral disease, at least HIV-1 and HTLV-1.
